Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (1964)

Despite its virtual cliche status, “the medium is the message,” as McLuhan explains it, encapsulates the perennial (and possibly primary) challenge for undergraduate literary pedagogy: teaching students to read for form as content.
